New year, new habits?

Sometimes in the legal industry, we find it difficult to have a work-life balance - particularly given the various pressures we face. Taking some time to plan and reflect does not necessarily lead to failure as so many New Year resolutions do. A SlideShare presentation by John DiGilio outlines some easy ways in which we can set goals, both professionally and personally, and measure them to facilitate success. A holiday in The Big Apple

Hi everyone, As some of you may have heard, my wife and I spent our Christmas and New Year’s in New York. I won’t regale you with everything that we saw and did whilst there but I will talk a bit about these two shots that I took just for the ALLA (WA) blog. Here I am at the New York Public Library. How could a librarian be in New York and not visit the New York Public Library? Here I am with the Australian Law Librarian journal and one of the two lions that guard the entrance to the Library. This lion is nicknamed Fortitude; his neighbour on the other side of the entrance steps is nicknamed Patience. Although, when inside, I didn’t get to say to someone “Back off man, I’m a scientist”, I did at least run down the steps as if I had seen a ghost. Mental Health Law Centre : Library Assistant

Library Assistant - 6 months contract The Mental Health Law Centre (WA) Inc. (the Centre) is an independent non-government not for profit community legal centre specialising in mental health law and has need of a Library Assistant. You will support the Librarian to establish, manage and operate a Library system for the Centre. This project is funded by Lotterywest. The contract is full time for 6 months. This position attracts generous salary packaging options with an FTE salary of $43,000 per annum. Employee Assistance Program for employees and immediate family members is available. To be successful in this position, you will have completed a Higher School Certificate or equivalent and be able to demonstrate accuracy in data entry. Mental Health Law Centre : Librarian

Librarian - 6 months contract The Mental Health Law Centre (WA) Inc. (the Centre) is an independent non-government not for profit community legal centre specialising in mental health law and has need of an experienced Librarian. We are seeking a qualified, enthusiastic and experienced Librarian to establish, manage and operate a Library system for the Centre. The candidate must hold a relevant degree and/or postgraduate qualification which qualifies for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association. This project is funded by Lotterywest. The contract is full time for the initial three months and three days per week for a further three months. This position attracts generous salary packaging options with an FTE salary of $70,000 per annum pro rata. Employee Assistance Program for employees and immediate family members is available.
