Register Now for Library Leadership: A Celebration

All members of the Western Australian Library sector are invited to attend this all day professional development event.

Organised as a joint project by representatives from LIS within WA including, ALIA West, ALLA (WA), WASLA, ALIA ARL WA, ALIA HLA, WALTG, TAFE WA Learning Resources Services Network, CURTIS, and with special thanks to the State Library of Western Australia. This event will offer attendees the chance to improve cross sector networking, by getting together, discussing and exploring what we all how in common and how we can all positively influence our changing profession.

The day will earn ALIA members 6 points for the ALIA PD scheme and include:    

  • Guest Speakers Dr Carmen Lawrence, formed Premier of Western Australia and Jennefer Nicholson, former Secretary General of IFLA
  • Workshops and Discussion Panels
  • Speed Networking and Laughing Yoga

Library Leadership: A Celebration will be held at the State Library of Western Australia on Friday 19th of May 9.00am to 5.00pm (Registrations from 8.30am).

  • $65.00 For members of ALLA, ALIA and WASLA
  • $75.00 For non-members
  • $50.00 For students

An optional dinner will follow from 5.30pm at Suama. This dinner will offer attendees an extended chance to socialise and to celebrate the 80th birthday of ALIA. Cost is $50 per person for the meal, drinks to be paid separately on the day.

Please note spaces are limited at both Library Leadership: A Celebration and the dinner. Please register early to avoid missing out.

ALLA Fellowships - Applications Close this Month!

With 2017 ALLA Ltd is offering a new model for the ALLA Fellowship.  With the 2017 Fellowships we hope to help as many members of the association as possible attend international conferences that focus on the area of law librarianship.

Fellowships Available

ALLA Ltd is now offering five $1500 fellowships to help members attend international conferences (one fellowship is available to each of the conferences below).

The Company

A national and leading Australian law firm currently require a Legal Librarian to join their Information Services team on a 12 month contract.The successful candidate will be providing library & research guidance to internal and external clients as well as conducting one on one & group training sessions.

The Role

As an Information Specialist you will provide effective delivery of library  and research assistance to the Sydney office, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting internal clients with complex legal research tasks.
  • Liaising with the Sydney and national training team regarding the needs of legal staff in Sydney.
  • Setting up and maintaining current awareness record and database
  • Promoting the library services
  • Participating in the national library projects and activities

Skills & experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience providing library & research services in a legal industry
  • Tertiary qualifications in Librarianship or Information management is essential
  • A thorough understanding of research methodologies as well as experience in the use of library collections, databases and digital sources in the legal sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching clients how to breakdown a research topic, either one on one or in small groups
  • A "roll your sleeves" attitude and enjoy working in a team environment.
